Major landforms of South America

Amazon Basin:
The Amazonia is covered by a largest tropical rain forest in the world and running through its center is located the Amazon River.

Andes:
It is a massive mountain system extends from the tip of South America all the way to Panamá. Its home to some of the planet’s largest volcanoes, and then continue down south to Chile.

Atacama Desert:
High into the Andes of Chile, this small desert is a cold place of rainfall, totally barren and covered with small borax lakes, lava flow remnants and saline deposits.

Brazilian Highlands:
This highland region runs through Brazil in Minas Gerais, Goias, Bahia and Sao Paulo in southern Brazil.

Guiana Highlands:
A geographically stunning part of Planet Earth, the Highlands stretch from southern Venezuela across the northern edge of South America to the tip of Brazil.

Llanos:
This large plain is very fertile. It is located in eastern and central Colombia, and central and southern Venezuela.

Pampas:
Famed for its many cattle ranches, it is on the southern of the continent in central Argentina.

Patagonia:
Located between Andes and Atlantic Ocean, Patagonia stretches from the Rio Negro River to Tierra del Fuego.
